Cox & Kings Offers Program for Indian Spiritual Festival
August 1, 2012Cox & Kings, The Americas is offering a program called Maha Kumbh Mela 2013 -- A Journey of the Soul designed to provide clients access to India’s spiritual festival Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious congregations on earth, attended by millions of Indian Hindus and religious pilgrims from around the world. The festival of 2013 has special significance as the culmination of 12 spiritual cycles that takes place only once every 144 years.
The festival draws holy men, revelers and onlookers to congregate according to the alignment of the stars. It takes place in the pilgrimage center of Prayag (Allahabad), where three sacred rivers converge, each rumored to have been blessed by drops of the elixir of eternal life. The height of the festival falls on the holy bathing days, with the main bathing day taking place on Feb. 10, 2013.
Cox & Kings will operate a Luxury Lakshmi Kutir Camp as a headquarters for the tour group, with vegetarian culinary fare and cooking demonstrations. Members of the group will have opportunities for personal encounters with spiritual gurus who are usually reclusive and hidden away in religious enclaves, as well as opportunities for meditation and yoga classes.
It’s a four-day/three-night package in Allahabad with all meals included. It includes a visit to Varanasi, which is historically regarded as the site where Buddha preached his first sermon. Additional optional walking excursions or boat rides to the bathing areas will be available. The tour can also be combined with visits to other Indian destinations, such as Agra and Khajuraho, or the cities of Rajasthan such as Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur as well as Kolkata and Lucknow.
